WordCamp Asia 2025 – A Personal Recap

WordCamp Asia 2025

The moment I booked my tickets for WordCamp Asia 2025, the countdown began.

Every day leading up to the event, the excitement kept building. But for those of us traveling from Bangladesh, getting the visa was a challenge. The process wasn’t smooth, and at times, it felt like an endless waiting game. But after a bit of back and forth, I finally got the green light—a moment of pure relief and joy!

With my visa in hand, I started preparing—checking out session schedules, planning which meetups to join, and most importantly, getting pumped to meet my BD Bhai-Brothers and other WordPress community members from around the world.

After weeks of anticipation, the day finally arrived, and I was off to Manila!

Landing in Manila – First Impressions

Journey to Manila- WordCamp Asia 2025

I finally made it to Manila, Philippines, for WordCamp Asia 2025! The moment I landed, I could feel the excitement.

New place, new people, and three days of non-stop WordPress action ahead. The energy was insane, and I knew this was going to be an unforgettable trip.

WordCamp Asia 2025 Contributor Day – Hands-on & Giving Back

Day one kicked off with Contributor Day. I joined the Development Contribution team, where we worked on improving WordPress. Sat with some brilliant minds, wrote some code, learned a few things, and contributed back to the community.

The vibe was collaborative—people helping each other, fixing bugs, discussing future improvements. It reminded me why I love this community so much.

Apart from coding, Contributor Day was also about meeting new people. I met developers, designers, and translators from different parts of the world, each bringing their unique perspective to WordPress. We exchanged ideas, shared tips, and bonded over our love for open-source.

The best part? Getting a Contributor Badge—a small but meaningful reward for giving back to the platform that powers so much of the web.

WordCamp Asia 2025 Conference Day 1: Learning, Connecting & Swags!

The real buzz started on the first day of the main conference. Thousands of WordPress enthusiasts filled the venue, all excited for what was ahead.

Sessions & Panels:

The day started with the opening keynote, setting the tone for what’s next in WordPress. One of the most interesting sessions I attended was about Headless WordPress & AI integrations, discussing how the future of WordPress is evolving beyond just traditional CMS.

The speakers shared insights on how AI-driven content creation and personalization could shape the next decade of web development.

Another favorite session was about scaling WordPress businesses, where successful product makers shared their journeys—from starting small to building six-figure companies. As a founder myself, this was super relatable and full of actionable advice.

Collecting Swags & Meeting Sponsors:

Between sessions, I explored the sponsor booths—and wow, the amount of cool swags was unbelievable! T-shirts, stickers, notebooks, and even some quirky WordPress-themed goodies.

Some sponsors even had contests and lucky draws. I had some fun conversations with the people behind the tools we use daily, from hosting providers to security plugins.

Community Meetups & Friendly Conversations:

Throughout the day, I bumped into familiar faces—BD Bhai-Brothers and other WordPress community members I had only interacted with online.

Meeting in person felt so different, and conversations flowed effortlessly. Whether it was discussing plugin development, growth hacks, or just cracking jokes, these connections were priceless.

Conference Day 2 – The Big Talks & Matt Mullenweg’s Session

Day two was equally packed, but with a bit more focus on advanced development topics and community-building sessions.

Deep Dive Sessions:

One of the most engaging discussions was about Performance Optimization for WordPress. The speaker went deep into caching strategies, database indexing, and optimizing large-scale WordPress sites for speed. Super technical but incredibly useful!

There was also a great workshop on security best practices for WordPress plugin and theme developers. Security is a huge concern, and this session helped me rethink some best practices we can implement at bPlugins.

Matt Mullenweg’s Session – A New Hope for WordPress

The session everyone had been waiting for—Matt Mullenweg, the co-founder of WordPress and CEO of Automattic, took the stage. The recent #WPDrama had stirred up some concerns in the community, and this was his chance to address it all.

He spoke about the future of WordPress, upcoming improvements, and most importantly, reassured the community that WordPress is stronger than ever.

The best part was the Q&A session, where attendees got to ask him direct questions. He handled everything openly, clearing doubts, and giving everyone a sense of optimism about what’s ahead.

Freemius Maker Meetup & Side Events

Apart from the main event, I joined the Freemius Maker Meetup. If you’re a plugin or theme developer, this is THE place to be. Exchanged ideas with fellow product makers, talked about pricing strategies, customer support hacks, and revenue models. No fluff, just real, practical discussions.

Other side meetups were also great for catching up with people from the WordPress ecosystem—whether it was product founders, SaaS builders, or marketers. The after-party scenes? Let’s just say, WordPress folks know how to have fun!

Food, Conversations & Local Vibes

Manila’s food scene? Insane! From lechon and adobo to street food adventures, I tried everything. But what made it even better was sharing meals with the community.

Imagine sitting with fellow WordPress enthusiasts, talking about plugins and themes while munching on delicious Filipino dishes.

That said, as a Muslim, finding halal food was a bit tough. In most cases, I had to depend on vegetable-based dishes and seafood. It was manageable, but hopefully, next time, Manila will surprise us with more halal-friendly food options for visitors.

Exploring the Philippines – A Few Extra Days

Since I was already in the Philippines, I decided to stay a few extra days to explore. Took some time to visit beaches, historic sites, and local markets.

The country is beautiful, and the people are incredibly welcoming. A well-deserved break after an intense WordCamp.

Back to Dhaka – Inspired & Ready for More

Now I’m back home in Dhaka, Bangladesh, reflecting on everything I experienced. WordCamp Asia 2025 wasn’t just another event—it was a mix of learning, building relationships, and having a great time.

Met some amazing people, picked up new ideas for bPlugins, and came back more motivated than ever. If you’ve never attended a WordCamp before, you have to experience it at least once. It’s not just about WordPress—it’s about community, collaboration, and growth.
